Professional Heating & Cooling Services in Novi, MI
Expert HVAC Repairs & Installations in Novi, MI
Novi more than doubled in size during the 1970s and kept building for decades after Twelve Oaks Mall opened in 1977. That growth left the city with a lot of homes whose furnaces and air conditioners are now original equipment or on their second round. Many of them are reaching the age where repairs start to stack up.
Harriman Heating & Air Conditioning has been keeping Novi homes comfortable since 1996. Our shop is just east in Farmington Hills. Our NATE-certified technicians service, repair and install furnaces, heat pumps and air conditioners from every major brand. We are also a Trane Comfort Specialist, so if you have Trane equipment or are shopping for it, you are in good hands.

Furnace Service and Tune-Ups in Novi, MI
A yearly furnace tune-up is the best way to avoid a no-heat call in January. During a service visit we clean and inspect the burners, check the ignitor and flame sensor, test the safety controls and look at the heat exchanger. We also make sure the blower and filter are moving air the way they should. If we find something worth fixing, we will tell you before we touch it.
Our maintenance plans bundle a fall furnace tune-up with a spring AC check so neither one gets forgotten.
Furnace Repairs
When a furnace in Novi quits, it is usually a failed ignitor, a dirty flame sensor, a clogged filter, a bad pressure switch or a worn blower motor. Our technicians find the actual cause, explain the fix in plain terms and get your heat running again.
Some problems are more than an inconvenience. If you smell gas, hear a carbon monoxide alarm, or the furnace keeps tripping the breaker, shut it off and call us. Learn more about our furnace services.

Furnace Replacement and Installation
If your furnace is 15 to 20 years old, needs repairs every season, or heats some rooms and not others, it may be time for a new one. We size each new furnace to the home instead of simply matching the old unit, pull the permit and handle the full installation. Field supervisor Jon Harriman, part of the family the company is named for, still meets with homeowners to walk through replacement options.
We install high-efficiency Trane furnaces along with other major brands, and financing is available.
Heat Pump Installation and Service
Today’s cold-climate heat pumps can heat a Michigan home through most of the winter and cool it all summer. Many Novi homeowners pair one with a gas furnace as a backup for the coldest nights. We install, repair and maintain heat pumps and can tell you whether one makes sense for your home and utility costs.

Novi, MI Heating & Cooling FAQ
How often should I get a furnace tune-up in Novi?
Once a year, ideally in September or October before heating season starts. Pair it with a spring air conditioning check and you will catch most problems before they turn into a no-heat or no-cool call.
What are the most common furnace repairs you see in Novi?
Failed ignitors, dirty flame sensors, clogged filters, bad pressure switches and worn blower motors. Most are same-visit fixes once the part is on the truck.
When should I replace my furnace instead of repairing it?
Look at replacement when the furnace is 15 to 20 years old, needs repairs every season, heats unevenly, or a single repair would cost close to half the price of a new one. We will give you both options with real numbers.
Does a heat pump work in a Michigan winter?
Yes. Current cold-climate heat pumps keep heating well below freezing. Pairing one with a gas furnace for the coldest nights is a popular setup in Novi. We can walk you through the operating costs for your home.
How often should I schedule HVAC maintenance in Novi?
Most Novi homeowners benefit from maintenance twice a year due to Michigan’s temperature swings. A spring AC tune up and a fall furnace or heat pump tune up help improve efficiency, lower energy costs, and prevent mid season breakdowns.
Is AC repair common during Novi’s summer heat?
Yes. With high humidity and stretches of ninety degree days, AC repair in Novi is one of the most frequent service requests. Fast diagnostics help prevent larger issues and extend the system’s lifespan.
When should I consider furnace replacement in Novi?
Most furnaces in Novi last fifteen to twenty years. If yours struggles to heat evenly, cycles frequently, or causes rising utility bills, a replacement can save long term costs and improve winter comfort.
Are ductless mini splits a good option for Novi homes?
Ductless mini splits work well in Novi for bonus rooms, basements, older homes without ductwork, and additions. They offer targeted heating and cooling and operate efficiently even during Michigan’s colder months.
What HVAC services do you provide for Novi neighborhoods?
We support homeowners throughout Novi, including areas near Twelve Oaks Mall, Novi Town Center, Lakeshore Park, and neighborhoods around Beck Road and Ten Mile Road, offering repairs, installation, and maintenance for all system brands.
Do you work on Trane systems in Novi?
Yes. We service Trane furnaces, Trane air conditioners, and all other makes and models. Novi homeowners receive expert diagnostics, repairs, and system recommendations based on actual home needs.
Josh did some calculations and found the furnace was sized to small for my home by the other company who did the installation. Josh listened to my concerns and offered some suggestions for the colder room as I cannot afford a new furnace. Happy to have found Harriman with such great people!”
